    NEED HELP?

The Answers to All Your Questions

What is becoming a green volunteer in Cyclades?

To become a Cyclades Green Volunteer is to travel to the Cyclades islands in Greece and have a positive impact while you are visiting, contributing to the extent that feels good for you, in either actions, donations, or simply sharing the word.

To have a positive impact we offer you resources to gain an understanding of the natural wonders of the Cyclades and the threats that we can all act to mitigate. Follow our webinars live or recorded, with a simple email input, to learn from our local experts and the organisations acting on the ground and in the seas of the cyclades.

Your eyes, ears, and choices here can affect the natural and cultural environment we all enjoy. See our pocket actions proposals to see how you can easily contribute in small ways while you travel around the islands.

    You can:

    • Get more involved by volunteering on site with some of our partner organisations.
    • Contribute financially to our partner organisations or to the Cyclades Preservation Fund itself.
    • If you are staying long term on the islands, reach out to local organisations and groups to support campaigns and efforts for the environment.

Above all enjoy your travels while having a positive impact on the local community and environment.

    Why volunteer in the Cyclades?

We are exploring an expanded sense of the word ‘volunteer’. In line with new concepts such as micro-volunteering and voluntourism, we believe all travellers can be equipped to make simple choices and small contributions in time and activity to collectively empower a healthier relationship between tourism and the natural life of an area.

If you would like to enjoy the majesty of the Cyclades while giving back, instead of further straining the life support system, explore the knowledge and tools we are offering from a network of long-standing local initiatives acting on behalf of ecological wellbeing.

    I couldn’t attend a webinar, how can I receive a recording?

Why do I have to sign up to attend and see recordings?

It is sometimes difficult to have a sense of the impact our work has. While we offer our content for free, asking you to sign up helps us get a sense of the reach of our material. All sensitive personal information remains confidential and is only used by the CPF team to record the number of recipients and to send any updated information about the webinars of your interest and the Cyclades Green Volunteers programme. When signing up you can also let us know if you are interested in any volunteering activities or guidance on how to donate to local entities.

    How long are the webinars?

Each webinar accommodates the wealth of knowledge and experience of the presenters we are inviting, while also giving space for discussions, and is about 3 hours long. Each presentation is about 30 minutes and you have the option to only watch the presentation of your interest.

What is the goal of the programme?

Our intention is to reach eco-minded visitors and residents who are English speaking to offer a number of actions that we consider positive for local nature. We also want to showcase the many initiatives we work with and connect people to their work and wisdom in relation to Cycladic nature.

What are the requirements to volunteer?

A wish to do more good than harm while in the Cyclades. Some time to learn from the local experts by watching or taking part in our webinars. Or simply a read through the quick actions we propose for travellers. A smartphone can help with many of the actions we propose.

Where can I volunteer in the Cyclades?

Any Cycladic island you are visiting can benefit from some of the basic concepts we offer for positive travelling. Take the time to choose more local, seasonal, and low-impact options when it comes to produce, businesses, and leisure, to contribute to strengthening those aspects of the local economy, which have wide-ranging impacts on the agroecological footprint of islands.

Explore our map of local initiatives and read more about any initiative you would like to reach out to or support.

Wildlife sightings can likewise happen on any island. Knowing that you can either report sightings of certain species, or what to do if you find an injured animal can help organisations operate more effectively for wildlife preservation. And remember, whatever the wildlife, give it space and respect, this is their home, and human activity can disturb our non-human kin, from seabirds to insects.
